Lotus 123 was one of the first spreadsheet programs for PC and was arguably the driving force in businesses adopting computers. Digital spreadsheets were complete game-changers. Microsoft was late to the table with Excel (in typical Microsoft fashion), its own spreadsheet software. Part of the Microsoft Office suite, Excel eclipsed Lotus 123 and today is the leading spreadsheet software.
While the best Excel experience is going to be with the desktop app, there are ways to use Excel for free. The web and mobile apps don’t have all of the features of the desktop app but for casual use, they may be all you need.
Excel’s Smart Lookup Feature
Microsoft Office has many features to help you with your work. Word has a built-in Thesaurus and Excel has Smart Lookup.
If you’ve ever needed to research the contents of an Excel cell, Smart Lookup automatically does a Bing search for you. Maybe not a feature you’ll use every day but super handy when you need it!
