This afternoon i received an email from my clients and friends at the Welland Heritage Council and Multicultural Centre that intrigued me. I have to share this one. From the 101men.com website:
The 101 Men Event is a transformational training program that targets 100 Male community leaders in an innovative event to help end gender violence (sexual assault, domestic violence, relationship abuse, sexual harassment, sexual abuse of children). The goal is to train and inspire these leaders to use their profile, power and status to change the definition of what it means to be a “real man” and drive behavioural and cultural change from the top down.
It seems to me that empowering women is certainly important but, helping men and especially our sons understand the issue is the key to success. Without doubt, gender violence isn’t always male on female it is by leaps and bounds the bulk of the problem.
Teaching male leaders in our community about the issue is a fanastic idea and I couldn’t help but share this. Let’s get our business, governmental, and community leaders out there.
Let’s actually make a difference.
